Significant & Authentic

Between April 2006 to December 2008 I was artist in residence at Craven Museum & Gallery in Skipton, North Yorkshire. Craven Museum & Gallery was founded in the 1930's at Skipton Library and now housed on the first floor of Skipton Town Hall. It contains a wide range of archaeological, historical and industrial artefacts, as well as a lot of ephemera, relating to the life and culture of Craven and is well worth a visit.

All museums keep large stores which often contain at least ten times more stuff than it is possible to display. This means that we can view only an edited version of the knowledge kept by museums. I feel it's analogous to the conscious and unconscious minds. I had the privilege of access to the stores at Craven Museum & Gallery to make drawings and take photographs.

Significant and Authentic the exhibition of paintings, drawings and other artefacts from this residency took place at Craven Museum & Gallery between September and October 2008. The exhibition was accompanied by a beautiful 48pp catalogue with over 23 full colour images of the work and a four page essay on the ideas behind this event.
